One set of study details, two outputs: the paragraph for your paper and the script that matches it, in R or SPSS.

What do these boxes mean?

Your data is probably a spreadsheet: one row per patient, one column per fact about that patient. The generator never sees your data. You tell it what your columns are called, and it writes what fits.

Example. Three patients got a drug or a placebo. For each patient the file holds their age, whether they have diabetes (1 = yes, 0 = no), and whether they had a complication afterwards (1 = yes, 0 = no).

The example as a spreadsheet
treatmentagediabetescomplication
drug6410
placebo7101
drug5800

With this file, you would fill in the boxes like this:

Outcome column
What you measure in every patient. Type: complication
Group column
What you compare the outcome between: here, which treatment the patient got. Type: treatment
Covariates (optional)
Other things that could influence the outcome and that you want to allow for. Skip this if you have none. age, diabetes
Column names
Type each name exactly as in the top row of your file: letters, numbers, dots and underscores. No spaces.
Data file
The name of the file, saved as CSV, for example trial.csv.
Filled in by the chooser. Change it if you need another method.
The name of your data file, saved as CSV, for example trial.csv. The script reads it from the folder it runs in.
The column that holds the outcome of each patient.
The column that says which group each patient is in, or the exposure you are studying.
Covariates (optional)Other variables you adjust for, such as age or sex. Each has a column name and a label.
The same measurement taken before treatment
